Course Overview
A new SFJ Awards qualification designed in collaboration with and endorsed by the Protective Security Centre, Government Security, to bolster protective security skills and support the UK’s national security has launched from PerpetuityARC Training.
The Level 4 certification, which is designed to upskill security professionals and attract new talent to the protective security sector, is the first qualification to be endorsed by all three of the government’s National Technical Authorities.
This regulated qualification – designed by SFJ Awards in collaboration with the Protective Security Centre (Home Office) – is also endorsed by NPSA, UK NACE and NCSC.
The objective of the programme is to provide learners with baseline knowledge and skills required to carry out the role of a Protective Security Adviser. This qualification equips delegates with the competencies to understand how the protective security disciplines dovetail to provide the foundations of ‘security convergence’.
Completion of this qualification will provide an understanding of how threat actors target us with a converged approach, and the importance of protecting organisational assets with robust converged security mitigations providing organisational seniors with a single overview of protective security risk.

ABOUT THE COURSE
Welcome to the SFJ Awards Level 4 Certification for Protective Security Advisers course, designed for professionals seeking the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out the role of a protective security adviser. On this course, delegates will study 14 core topics, designed to provide a range of coverage across different areas of security.
The four major disciplines of protective security – physical, personnel, technical and cyber – often operate in silos in the real world. This can lead to different teams, under different management, focusing on proprietary risks. However, effective protective security risk management highlights the need for converged solutions to deliver effective mitigation.
This new qualification’s aim is to provide a base level of competence following the approach taken by other professions. It will focus on upskilling staff as well as supporting those entering the sector – whether they are new to the workforce or changing career. Participants can then specialise in their chosen field with an understanding of how the other three disciplines dovetail to provide security convergence.

Teaching & Assessment
Learners will receive an SFJ Awards Level 4 Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
This is a tutor-led blended course comprising five days of in-person classroom training, followed by nine months of online learning to complete the programme. Delegates will be assessed through a series of practical evaluations conducted throughout the duration of the course. Total guided learning hours for this programme are approximately 111 hours. Total amount of time required to achieve the Certificate are 140 hours of learning.
