The Security Institute Advanced Certificate in Security Management is an online, internationally-recognised security training course. Designed by security practitioners, the course gives you an introduction to the core principles of security management.
You will gain an understanding of policy and best-practice techniques that security professionals should adopt. To give extra insight, you have a choice of elective modules. This gives you flexibility in your learning, helping the course to be relevant to your goals.
From discussing the formation of risk, to analysing potential causes and prevention of crime, this course is a must for those either new to their role, or for experienced security professionals who perhaps haven’t worked at an academic level for some time.
This is an online training course made up of six modules, three of which are mandatory and three chosen from elective modules.
Core Modules
- Introduction to Security Management
An introduction to security management, exploring the key concepts in risk management, and building and maintaining sustainable security systems. You’ll also take a look at the concept of how security can add value to an organisation – essential in today’s corporate security sector.
- Security Department Management
An understanding of management principles is vital to the operation of a security team. Explore the role of management, as well as the financial, HR and operational skills and techniques needed to manage staff and resources.
- Information Security
Information takes many forms. It can be stored on computers, transmitted across networks, displayed on screens, printed out, written down, or spoken during conversation. Information is under threat from unauthorised access and must be protected. In this module, you will look at information security from the non-technical point of view of the security or business manager, who has a responsibility for the security of information.

Assessment
Assessment for this SRF BTEC Level 3 Advanced Certificate is through short, written answers (approximately 250 words per answer) to a series of questions, based on the modules covered.
There are typically 9-10 questions per each module, and you’ll have tutor support should you need it. Full feedback is provided for each answer, and if there is room for further explanation then you’ll be able to resubmit your response in accordance with the feedback you receive from the tutor. In addition to the support you get from us, you’ll also have full access to a library packed with useful writing guides and helpful supporting documents.

This course forms the first step in a security professional pathway. Following successful completion of this course, you can go on to complete the Security Institute Diploma in Security Management SRF BTEC Level 5 course. From there, the Security Institute Advanced Diploma QNUK Awards Level 7.
