Born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa, following High School, I joined the South African Police Service to undertake my 2 years compulsory service and ended up staying 11 ½ years! From there I moved into the private sector, before joining the US Consulate in Johannesburg in their Regional Security Office. I joined the World Bank Group as a Consultant in late 2007, and am currently employed as a full time staff in the role of Senior Security Specialist, East & Southern Africa managing the day to day security of the World Bank Group including high risk areas such as Somalia.
The nature of our profession requires us to constantly improve ourselves and to keep up to date with advancements and developments within the industry. Having previously undertaken the Level 5 Diploma in Security Management with the Perpetuity Academy, I was keen to invest further in my personal development and so I enrolled onto the Level 7 Advanced Diploma.
The Level 7 course modules were closely aligned to the challenges I face on a daily basis in my occupation, specifically the Critical Thinking and Writing Skills. The real meaning of these modules are often misunderstood, but fundamentally this course helps you to focus on the following key areas:
- Is there a reason for something happening?
- Why is it important?
- Really look at where things could have been asked differently and how things could be improved.
In our daily interactions with people, there are always those looking to complain and derail processes along every step. In contrast the Level 7 course equips you with the tools required to critically evaluate what has occurred, find ways to improve, and finally to apply the solution.
Studying online with Perpetuity gave me the opportunity to study whenever I had time available, making it more convenient to balance studying, work, and private life. I cannot recommend this course highly enough to those working in the security industry.
